English Language Arts Companion
Grades 3–11
Close the gaps to ELA success
Using authentic literature, each lesson develops a standards-based skill through four steps to success—skill/concept introduction, guided instruction, independent practice, and application.
Three full-length practice tests diagnose proficiency, measure progress, and ensure mastery and stamina for state exams. Five writing workshops help students analyze prompts, evaluate writing effectiveness, and develop their independent writing skills.
Teacher Editions include:
- A reproducible answer key chart to use to assess students' strengths and weaknesses.
- A two-point rubric for exemplary responses.
- A four-point essay rubric.
- Model student answers to writing prompts.

A Tryout Test determines strengths and weaknesses and guides individual instruction with questions matching those found on new state and national assessments.
- Multiple-choice
- Short- and long-answer open-ended response
- Multi-select and multi-part multiple choice questions that mimic technology enhanced questions on digital tests

Using authentic fiction and informational texts, each lesson follows a gradual release of responsibility model to optimize learning.
