Take knowledge of grammar and culture to the next level

The contents link communication and culture by incorporating ACTFL's Five C goal areas and offer plentiful opportunities to apply skills and understandings. 

  • All points of grammar are illustrated by examples in which key elements are typographically highlighted.
  • The organization permits the teacher to follow any sequence suitable to the objectives of the course.
  • Systematically repeated and carefully controlled vocabulary enables students to concentrate on structural practice throughout the grammar chapters.
  • Chapters on French and French American cultures allow students to become familiar with the background of native speakers of French.
  • Carefully graded, the exercises proceed from simple assimilation to more challenging manipulation of elements and communication.
  • A comprehensive appendix provides students with model verb tales and principal parts of common regular verbs along with basic rules of French punctuation, syllabication, and stress.

Years One to Three are available in two different formats. 

  • Workbook Format—consumable worktexts with write-on lines for student practice and comprehension.
  • Review Text Format—6" x 9" texts designed for ease of study and reference in a proficiency-oriented communicative approach.

Master the linguistic and cultural content needed to achieve advanced-level proficiency in French.

  • Grammar is written in English but all exercises require that answers be give in French.
  • Topics of the 29 features readings are varied and relevant to students' age and experience.
  • The final reading in each chapter is followed by questions, essays, research projects, or discussions that provide alternative forms of assessment.
  • Students are encourage to read the short biographical notes give at the end of each chapter to make short, knowledgeable presentations.
  • Reflects ACTFL's Five C's and the current AP French Language and Culture Tests, including modes of communication.

The Teacher Package includes:

  • A companion audio program that drills skills in speaking, listening, and reading comprehension. Reflects the current AP French Language and Culture Tests. A script is included in the Answer Key.
  • An Answer Key with answers to all practice exercises and chapter assessments and detailed answers to free-response questions. Also contains a printed audio script.
