Dr. Brandon Abdon has 20-plus years in education as a high school English teacher, a professor of English and Education, a curriculum and assessment developer, and as an instructional coach. Brandon holds advanced degrees in both English and Education - including a Doctorate in English with certification as a teacher, reading/literacy specialist, and an administrator. His academic work has revolved around the rhetoric of fiction, specifically the fiction of Richard Wright in its context; transitional literacy – that is literacy and reading instruction beyond the elementary grades; and alignment and interpretation of standards. For numerous years Brandon worked as a consultant for the Advanced Placement program at the College Board. He believes in the power of writing daily in the classroom. While he is passionate about educational opportunities for underrepresented groups, he knows that all students have a path to literacy when engaged and challenged suitably. Dr. Abdon is the senior author of two textbooks for AP® English Literature (2021) and AP® English Language (2020) and a collaborator on a number of projects to support secondary English teachers and their classrooms.
